OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Major changes are coming to the U.S. 131 intersection at West Main Street/M-43 in Oshtemo Township this spring, and the Michigan Department of Transportation is holding an open house Thursday to discuss the plans.
MDOT says the project is estimated to cost around $10 million and wrap up in September. Work will includes widening West Main Street/M-43 to add a right-turn lane from Drake Road to U.S. 131, expanding the intersection at Mall Drive near the Shell gas station and adding a pedestrian crossing, expanding the intersection at Maple Hill Drive, removing the southbound U.S. 131 loop ramp to eastbound M-43/West Main Street, rebuilding the southbound U.S. 131 ramp to westbound M-43/West Main Street to add a traffic signal and a left turn to eastbound M-43/West Main Street, adding a left-turn signal on M-43/West Main Street at 10th Street, and adding a right-turn lane on eastbound M-43/West Main Street between 10th Street and the southbound U.S. 131 ramp.
The work is expected to begin this spring.
The open house will be Thursday, March 6 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Oshtemo Township Office, 7275 West Main Street, Kalamazoo.
