COVERT TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The owner of the Palisades nuclear power plant in Covert Township says they are planning to have an “ultra-safe” small modular reactor at the site by 2030.
Holtec International’s president of Global Clean Energy Opportunities Rick Springman spoke about the effort to restart the plant.

Audio PlayerOfficials say the first SMR-300 units will be built at the plant that they have been working to re-fire since it closed in May 2022.
If they get the necessary funding and succeed, Palisades will become the first nuclear power plant to ever be restarted in the United States. The federal government approved a loan of $1.5 billion for the plant last year.
