PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage Northern High School students interested in a skilled trades job after graduation will get a chance next month to try one on for size.
March 20 the school will host the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters “Schools to Tools” Mobile Experience, offering students a hands-on opportunity to explore careers in the skilled trades.
The “Schools to Tools” event will feature interactive stations where students can experience firsthand various aspects of construction and craftsmanship. They will also have the opportunity to speak directly with current apprentices and unionized skilled trades professionals to gain insight into the training, career paths, and benefits of a career in the trades.
“Too often, young adults discover the trades only after trying other paths like college or the military,” said Jeff Taylor, president, Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters. “By introducing students to the skilled trades early, we aim to help them make informed career decisions that match their skills and interests.”
The all-day event is open to all PNHS high schools students, and parents are also welcome to attend and observe.
