KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public School’s superintendent has gotten a mid-year evaluation and a set of goals from trustees for the months ahead.
After a closed session last night, Dr. Darrin Slade announced three goals set by the board: one being improving reading and math scores, two being reducing truancy.

Dr. Slade says a draft of the strategic plan will be presented soon for public review.
Audio PlayerTrustee Patti Sholler-Barber says they have been encouraged by the results so far, saying the board is eager to partner with Slade on “all the great things you are doing.”
One of the programs instituted by Slade to boost achievement is Saturday school for students who are lagging behind in reading and math.
The first session in this school year’s Saturday schedule will be held this weekend for 350 elementary students at Edison and for 150 middle schoolers at Maple Street.
