CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A teacher at Legg Middle School in Coldwater has been arrested following an investigation by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Coldwater Police Department into allegations of voyeurism.
57-year-old Keith Johnson, who lives in Calhoun County’s Eckford Township, was arrested Tuesday on allegations of using a computer to commit a crime and surveillance of an individual with a reasonable expectation of privacy.
Coldwater Community Schools Superintendent Paul Flynn said in a statement released Wednesday night that Johnson was placed on leave until further notice immediately following his arrest.
According to a Sheriff’s Department news release, investigators received reports regarding the suspect’s alleged actions of secretly recording individuals while they were in various stages of undress.
The man was identified after what the department described as a “thorough investigation” and was taken into custody.
A search warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence, where additional evidence was collected.
The investigation is continuing and the Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with information related to this case to contact Detective Diepenhorst at (269) 781-0880 or Silent Observer at (269) 964-3888.
The Calhoun Area Multi-Jurisdictional Evidence Team has also assisted the Sheriff’s Department.
Flynn said the school district is working closely with police and will continue to do so throughout the criminal investigation. Flynn also said they have launched their own internal investigation consistent with school policies and procedures.
He added there is currently no evidence the alleged crimes took place on school property or involved school resources. The district is also encouraging anyone with information to contact the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department or OK2SAY.
Johnson had served as a teacher for Coldwater Community Schools since 2019. He was also a junior varsity girls soccer coach before becoming the Coldwater girls soccer head coach for two seasons in 2022 and 2023.
