KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Pactiv Evergreen packaging plant on Miller Road in Kalamazoo is shutting down this summer.
The company filed a WARN Act report with the state saying the 153 employees will be laid off starting in April, and the plant will shut down in June.
The union is working to negotiate severance packages and continue health care coverage for the staff.
The facility started in 1950 as Fabri-Kal Corporation and was sold to Illinois-based Pactiv Evergreen in 2021, and that company is being purchased now by North Carolina-based Novolex.
The other Pactiv Evergreen plant in Kalamazoo is located on Manchester Road, but a union representative says the work there is too different to allow the Miller Road staff to transfer there.
