LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Fiscal Year 2026 budget proposal has been released by Governor Whitmer’s administration.
Her $83.5 billion spending plan will be worked on by the state House, controlled by Republicans, and Senate, which is controlled by Democrats.
State budget director Jen Flood presented the spending plan to lawmakers, which includes record spending for public schools.
Audio PlayerRepresentative Ann Bollin, who is the Republican chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee, says the state needs to find places to cut spending wherever possible, and follow the example of President Trump.
Audio PlayerWhitmer is proposing spending $676-million to continue universal pre-K, nearly $5 billion for fixing roads, and $125-million to expand CTE programs in underserved school districts.
She is expected to release details on her road funding plan within the next week.
