COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Comstock Township is a step closer to changing its ordinance that would allow for smaller lot sizes for single and two-family homes.
The township board approved the first reading of the ordinance amendment last night, with Michelle Serlin being among the residents who spoke in favor of the change.
Larry Nichols spoke against the zoning change proposal to shrink lot sizes.
Developer Matt Watts of Watts Development proposed the change, saying what he wants to build are homes for people that have the income base, not subsidized housing.
The current lot sizes in the township are from 8,500 to 6,600 square feet, and Watts is asking for a minimum lot size of 6,000 square feet.
The township planning consultant says the change fits in the 2030 master plan that backs the ideas of various housing types.
The second reading will happen at the next meeting.
