GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – In Grand Rapids, charges against 46-year-old Roconda Singleton have been revised to include murder in the Saturday fire that killed her 12-year-old daughter Shamiya Stewart.
Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker says Singleton will have a mental health competency evaluation to determine if she can help in her defense and understands the charges against her.
Audio PlayerThe fire was intentionally set at their home on Eastern Avenue SE between Hall and Martin Luther King Jr. streets and her seven-and-ten-year-old daughters were able to escape.
Singleton has been dealing with mental health issues for several months and Becker does not know if she will face trial in circuit court or probate court if she is determined to be unfit for trial.
