KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Several politicians are weighing a run for the U.S. Senate in Michigan next year with the announcement that Democratic Senator Gary Peters won’t seek a third term.
Veteran 4th District Congressman Bill Huizenga, whose district includes Kalamazoo County, is considering running for the Republican nomination for the Senate, and a source close to him says he was considering a bid for the office before Peters made his announcement.
Former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who moved to Traverse City three years ago, is looking into running for the Democratic nomination, as is Congresswoman Hillary Scholten of Grand Rapids and Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist.
