KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – At the end of the coldest weeks in years, Kalamazoo will host one of its hottest events this weekend, and it may just hit the spot if you have been hunkered down indoors all week.
Saturday, downtown Kalamazoo retailers, restaurants and others will be competing in the annual Chili Cookoff, which you can help judge according to Discover Kalamazoo’s Jane Ghosh.
“As I understand it, there are at least 30 participants in the Chili Cookoff,” she says.
It’s the 20th consecutive year the event has been held.
Ghosh says it starts at the KVCC Center for New Media on the Downtown Mall, where for a nominal fee, you can get a spoon, a map of the participants and get started.
“So I encourage everyone to come in and appreciate and discover some delicious chili here in Kalamazoo.”
It starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.
The Kalamazoo Public Library will also be staging their “bag sale” on Saturday. For 25-cents per item or for $5.00 you can fill a standard sized grocery bag with gently used books, DVDs and audiobooks. You can dive into those the next time temperatures and snowflakes fall. It runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Main Library on Rose Street.
