KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two road construction workers will serve at least the next 15 years in prison for killing a 33-year-old homeless man in the fall of 2022.
The two, Zachary Trainor and Bryan Wimbley, admitted they beat Lashaun Kelly to death using sledgehammers.
Kelly had been living under a bridge that was undergoing repairs in 2022 near the Wings Event Center. The attack started on October 31 and went into the early morning hours of November 1.
The man’s body was later dumped in a Van Buren County field near the Kal-Haven Trail and it was discovered a few days later by hunters.
In an interview with detectives last April, Trainor said Kelly was begging them not to kill him. The two were working on the road project and went back to the site after spending their Halloween night drinking.
