PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage Public Schools superintendent Mark Bielang is retiring at the end of the academic year.
He has been the district’s superintendent since July 2013 after previously serving as Paw Paw Public Schools’ superintendent.
PPS board president Randy Van Antwep says Bielang “has provided steady leadership to Portage Public Schools for the past 12 years” and says the district continues the work he began to replace aging facilities. He adds Bielang was “integral in navigating the significant challenges presented during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
In the letter announcing his retirement, Bielang says it has been an honor to contribute to the district’s growth, and he leaves “knowing that the district is in good hands with the ongoing dedication of staff and leadership.”
His last day on the job will be June 30.
