KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools trustees got organized for 2025 last night, swearing in new but familiar board members and electing officers.
The net result is no change at all.
Yvonne Payton, Carol McGlinn and Takisha Johnson took the oath and they were all appointees who won terms of their own in November.
Just as the voters chose not to change trustees, the board voted to maintain the same leadership team. Ti’Anna Harrison was elected to continue as chair.
She thanked her fellow trustees for supporting her, saying “most importantly that you hold me accountable, and in holding me accountable, I am able to help move us forward.”
They picked Carol McGlinn to return as vice chair, Jennie Hill as secretary and Karla Murphy as treasurer.
McGlinn says there was no reason to change.
“And that’s because we have a really strong team, and I am really proud of the team that we are, everyone brings something to the table that is important,” she said.
Board members serve four-year terms, and elect leadership each year.
Every meeting, trustees hand out certificates to students who have achieved academic goals.
Last night it was their turn as the superintendent handed out certificates to them, to Celebrate Board Appreciation Month.
Like the students, he made them stand in front of the crowd for pictures.
