PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage city council approved an agreement with Kalamazoo County this week to provide money to the victims of the May 7 tornado last year.
Portage’s chief operating officer Adam Herringa says $1 million will go to businesses and $600,000 will go to homeowners if the county commission also approves the deal.
That vote is set to happen January 21.
Herringa says businesses and homeowners will have to demonstrate a loss from the storm, need to be in the tornado’s path, and the damage can’t be from any other event last year.
Money is also available through applications to Texas and Pavilion townships.
Herringa says Portage expects applications to be available sometime in February once Kalamazoo County commissioners approve the agreement.
