CONSTANTINE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An innovative agricultural processing plant proposed in Constantine that has already received $2.5 million in funding from the Michigan Strategic Fund now has been granted an an Industrial Facilities Tax Exemption by the village.
The tax break of 50 percent for ten years for Dairy Distillery Alliance, LLC was approved on a 4-3 vote. Village Manager Mark Honeysett told the council that the village will receive approximately $59,000 a year in taxes, and Dairy Distillery Alliance will save the same amount yearly.
Dairy Distillery Alliance is a joint venture between the Michigan Milk Producers Association and Canada-based Dairy Distillery USA. The new facility plans to transform 14,000 tons of milk permeate, a dairy product, into 2.2 million gallons of low carbon-intensity ethanol, adding to the biofuel supply for cars and trucks. Michigan was chosen for the project over a competing site in Indiana.
Ethanol production at the $40 million plant is planned for early 2025.
