OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) – One man is dead and another is in police custody after a crash on U.S. 131 in Kalamazoo County’s Oshtemo Township early Sunday.
Around 2:45 a.m., deputies with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office were sent to US-131 just south of W Main Street after receiving reports that a vehicle had hit a sign.
They found a vehicle that had crashed into a support post for the northbound highway exit sign. The driver, a 25-year-old Oshtemo Township man, was extracted from the vehicle and died at an area hospital,
According to the sheriff’s office, a witness told them the man and another driver appeared to have been racing each other. Investigators believe that the two vehicles may have crashed into each other and are investigating.
Investigators say the other vehicle’s driver, a 22-year-old Kalamazoo man, had stopped after seeing the crash. He was arrested on suspicion of operating under the influence.
