WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO AM/FM) – Congressman Bill Huizenga officially took the oath of office to represent Michigan’s 4th Congressional District in the 119th Congress Friday.
It will be his eighth term in Congress. He previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives.
After serving 18 years, Republican incumbent Pete Hoekstra retired to run for the Republican nomination for governor. Huizenga defeated six others in the Republican primary election in August 2010. Huizenga then defeated Democratic nominee Fred Johnson in the general election that year.
He defeated Democratic challenger Jessica Swartz in November 2024 to earn his eighth term in the U.S. House of Representatives. His seat is one Republicans have held since 1936.
District four represents all of Allegan, Berrien, and Van Buren counties along with parts of Kalamazoo and Ottawa counties.
After being sworn in, Congressman Huizenga released the following statement.
“I am honored to continue serving Southwest Michigan in the 119th Congress,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “With both the House and Senate now under Republican stewardship, there is much work to be done to secure our borders, make everyday life more affordable, and deliver on the promise that America’s best days are ahead of us. Let’s get to work!”
