KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Tourism is one of Michigan’s biggest industries and it continues to grow in Kalamazoo County, post-COVID, setting a record for visitors last year, and could do it again this year.
Discover Kalamazoo director Jane Ghosh says they saw tourism grow by 9.2% in the most recent available figures bringing more dollars into the community than they have ever seen at $750 million.
Kalamazoo may not have the lakeshore, but Ghosh says it does have the Air Zoo, the Gilmore Car Museum, Bell’s Brewery, and more.
Ghosh says one reason she is optimistic about continued growth is because of their new advertising campaign, targeting day trippers.
With the new event center under construction downtown, and plans for a sports tournament center on the drawing board, she expects growth will continue.
