LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan leaders are paying tribute to former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at 100, praising his contributions to conservation, human rights, and public service.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer highlighted his efforts to expand national parks, advocate for solar energy, and build homes with Habitat for Humanity.
Former Governor Jim Blanchard recalled Carter’s key role in the 1980 Chrysler bailout, which saved thousands of Michigan jobs. Other state officials remember Carter as a man whose values and actions left a lasting impact on the nation.
The Gerald R. Ford Museum is going to be opening up a display honoring the life of Carter.
The display titled “Remembering President Jimmy Carter” will have things like campaign buttons and photographs of Carter and Ford. It’ll remain open to the public from today until when Carter is buried.
