COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says a man has been arrested after assaulting a gas station employee in Comstock Township early Sunday morning.
Around 2:52 a.m., deputies were called to the Shell Gas Station on Miller Drive after reports of an employee who had been assaulted.
The KCSO says that the suspect entered the store, assaulted the 69-year-old employee with a tire iron, and stole items from behind the counter before fleeing in a vehicle. The employee was taken to the hospital and is listed in serious condition.
After descriptions of the vehicle and suspect were given to local police, deputies with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect on I-69 and took him into custody. A Kalamazoo County deputy came to the scene and to collect the stolen items and the weapon used in the assault.
The suspect has been identified as a 37-year-old man from Saint Clair Shores.
His name is currently being withheld until he is arraigned on criminal charges.
He is currently lodged in Calhoun County Jail and will eventually be turned over to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
