KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The new, temporary home of the Kalamazoo Public Library’s Alma Powell Branch is now open at 308 West North Street.
The Northside neighborhood branch opened at 1 p.m. Monday and KPL officials and staff say they are thrilled to bring library services back to the area.
A pre-opening celebration was held Saturday with over 130 Northside residents joining KPL staff for an event at the Northside Association for Community Development. The KPL Mobile Library gave away free books and signed residents up for library cards. Tours of the new Alma Powell Branch Library were provided during the event.
KPL has contracted with Twala Lockett–Jones and Abonmarche Byce to identify, evaluate, and select a site for the new Alma Powell Branch Library location on the Northside and estimates the completion of the project to be three to four years.
