DEARBORN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Holiday travel numbers this year are at record highs. Almost 120-million will travel at leave 50 miles away from home, according to Triple-A.
With Christmas Day falling on a Wednesday, Triple-A says that makes both the weekends before and after big travel weekends.
In Michigan, Triple-A is predicting a record 3.8 million people will travel between December 21 and January 1. That is 98,000 more than 2023, which also set a record.
Triple-A officials say people need to expect roads, airports, and cruise terminals will be more crowded than normal, so they need to make plans now and give themselves extra time to get to their destinations.
About nine in ten travelers will drive to their destinations, with the busiest days at rental car companies for pickups on December 20th and 21st.
