LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Bills that raise unemployment pay from $362 to $624 a week by 2027 are heading to Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
The bills also extend jobless pay from 20 to 26 weeks and are the first expansion in over 20 years.
Michigan AFL-CIO president Ron Bieber called the legislation a “huge victory for Michigan’s working people” and says the state has been lagging behind others in the Midwest for years.
The bills passed the House 56-to-53 yesterday after the Senate passed them last week.
