LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) -Bartenders and restaurant servers held a rally at the state Capitol Tuesday as they continue to try to get lawmakers to change the minimum wage increase that will eliminate their lower tipped wages.
They fear the higher pay will increase prices and eliminate people leaving tips. The law will gradually increase their pay to minimum wage over several years, and they say the lower tipped wage results in better and higher pay.
Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association president Justin Winslow says servers, bartenders, and restaurant operators did not ask for the lower tipped wage to go away and they are “frankly pissed off that no one’s listening to this.”
