PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage City Manager Patrick McGinnis will start the new year with job security.
The Portage City Council has voted to extend his contract for another three years, even though his current deal isn’t set to expire for another six months.
The vote was unanimous.
His current contract runs until July 12 , 2025, with the new deal extending it until July 2028. He currently earns $220,500 per year.
He received high marks in his latest council review, scoring 4.22 out of 5.
McGinnis has been tested on the job in the past few years with a homeowner uprising in the Lake Center District over new housing plans, a scandal in the Mayor’s race that led to charges against one of the candidates, and the devastating May 2024 tornado that struck the city.
He has overseen the revamping of housing and building codes, helped bring the Zhang Senior Center and plans for a new farmers market to fruition, and has overseen upgrades to City Hall.
