ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman has resigned, effective on December 1.
He will take over as Branch County undersheriff on January 1 and had taken on some of the responsibilities of sheriff in St. Joseph County after Sheriff Mark Lillywhite was arrested in February 2023 for drunk driving in Kalamazoo County.
Lillywhite did not run for reelection this year and Chad Spence won the primary election in August against four other Republican candidates, including Bingaman.
Spence has met with Bingaman before he retired from the office.
Bingaman says he is looking forward to working with Branch County Sheriff-elect Fred Blankenship and being part of the law enforcement team in that county.
