KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The winter storm has forced Kalamazoo Public Schools to cancel their groundbreaking event today for the new district kitchen.
The kitchen will be built on the site of the former Chime Elementary School and is expected to be finished in early 2026.
It is being paid for by the 2018 bond and is a central part of the KPS plans to provide fresher, higher quality food options for students.
The district provides approximately 6,500 breakfasts, 9,000 lunches, and 400 dinners for students each day. Additionally, KPS also provides meals to KRESA, Head Start, and other organizations.
The district kitchen will be 17,172 square feet and will provide central storage, distribution, production, and catering space for KPS Food Service.
