KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A sharp cold front moving through the region late this afternoon with a combination of winds gusting over 40 mph, lake effect snow, and temperatures falling through the 20’s and into the teens has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Storm Warning for Kalamazoo County and the surrounding region from 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through 1:00 a.m. Friday.
The NWS says the late fall storm will result in hazardous travel conditions Wednesday night, with whiteouts possible in falling and blowing snow. Thursday morning’s commute could be especially tough in the lake-effect snow band areas, and cold temperatures and gusty winds will continue through Thursday.
“Northwest flow will result in the heaviest snow totals in the area from Holland to South Haven and over to Kalamazoo. Some of the hi res models show the potential for an I-94 band, so heavy snow could extend inland all the way to Jackson and beyond.”
