KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A plan has been offered for the distribution of three-million-dollars granted to Kalamazoo County for tornado relief.
The May twister touched down in Texas Township, ripped across Portage and hit a trailer park in Pavilion Township before dissipating.
The money was included in this year’s state budget by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
County Administrator Kevin Catlin says he met with Senator Sean McCann on Monday to come up with a rough plan on how to spend it.
He says this will expedite getting the money to those who need it.
A third of the money would be set aside to help businesses damaged by the storm. Another third would be split between the three municipalities to spend, and the last million would be divided between the agencies that are already providing help to residents, expanding and extending their services.
It still needs Kalamazoo County commission approval, which could come in two weeks.
