KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 39-year-old man has been convicted of two charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct for assaulting a then-14-year-old girl in 2005.
Shawn Hopkins was charged in February 2023 after the case was taken up by the Kalamazoo Sexual Assault Kit Initiative, or SAKI.
The girl had reported the assault right away, but she did not know Hopkins’ actual name.
The Michigan Attorney General’s Office says work by SAKI has now resulted in 22 convictions, and Hopkins will be sentenced February 5th.
