AUDIO: Kalamazoo water, sewer rates going up in 2025

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Water and sewer rates will be going up January first for the residents in 11 communities using city of Kalamazoo water, and 22 municipalities connected to the sewage plant.

Kalamazoo Public Services director James Baker says that will amount to an increase of about $5 a month, beginning with the new year.

Unlike Consumers Energy, your cell phone provider or even Spectrum Cable, the water utilities are community owned.

Baker says all the money it gets goes back into the system.

Baker says they are in the middle of a five-year capital improvement campaign, and utility customers can expect to see similar rate hikes in coming years.
