KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – After ending a nationwide search, the Kalamazoo Public Library Board of Trustees has decided to offer its interim director the role on a permanent basis.
Michael Cockrell took over as interim director in June after previous interim director Terry New stepped down.
The leadership position has been in flux for nearly two years.
The library hired a search firm to help it conduct a nationwide hunt for a new director, but firm eventually canceled the contract. One person was offered the job but declined. Several board members have also resigned during the process.
Before becoming interim director, Cockrell was head of the library’s patron services department. He also previously served as the lead librarian at the Alma Powell Branch.
Officials with the Kalamazoo Public Library note Cockrell has been offered the job permanently, but has not yet accepted that.
