KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo’s chief traffic engineer says it appears that changes to Kalamazoo’s streets seem to be making them safer, but there is a lot at play here.
Dennis Randolph says state police numbers show that the overall crash rate is down 23% in the city since the pandemic, better than the state’s numbers
Randolph used as an example traffic on Stadium Drive, which has undergone a major facelift between Rambling Road and the downtown, with a divided boulevard and narrower lanes.
But he says one or two miles-per-hour can have a big impact on the amount of damage in a crash.
Considering that no single street has been converted from one way to two way, it may be too early to tell if that project is really having an impact.
