SCHOOLCRAFT TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Public Housing Commission held a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday to celebrate the opening of ten mobile homes for low-income residents near Schoolcraft Township.
Commission president Patrese Griffin says using mobile homes was a unique idea.
The homes were built in Indiana and brought to Sugarloaf Mobile Home Park off of Shaver Road near US-131 and families will pay rent based on their income.
The units will go to families who have already connected with homeless liaisons through their schools in Kalamazoo County, and the project was paid for by the county’s 2015 housing millage.
