KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – This week doesn’t just mark the start of the holiday season, it also marks the end of the first trimester at Kalamazoo Public Schools.
Superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade says the school year has gotten off to a great start.
He says one statistic that stands out is the reduction of absenteeism. He says with the hard work of staff and the hiring of former trustee Jermaine Jackson as a full time truant officer, they have seen chronic truancy drop by 20% year to year.
He says it will be a short week before they dismiss students for the holiday break.
