KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Hundreds of low-income families in Kalamazoo will receive all the fixings they need to make their own Thanksgiving meals this week from Communities in Schools of Kalamazoo.
The nonprofit is working with SpartanNash, KVCC, New World Flood and the YMCA of Kalamazoo to package and deliver the groceries to 750 homes they have already identified as being in need.
KPS trustee Patti Sholler-Barber, who sits on the CIS board, says the need is real.
She says they are still looking for volunteers to help out on Wednesday.
Communities In Schools of Kalamazoo executive director James Devers calls it a community feast put together by “a community of like minded agencies sharing the expense and workload to provide holiday meals to so many families.”
