KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo’s city traffic and planning officials are working on ways to avoid the headaches caused by construction this year, when the work resumes next spring.
Traffic Engineer Dennis Randolph admits that mistakes were made, and lessons learned.
He says they have to do a better job of communications and designing detours.
They picked Burdick as the detour for Westnedge, but drivers chose Oakland and Portage because they wanted access to I-94.
He also says they are also evaluating the work of contractors and the contents of their contracts.
He says changes in how they do the projects will also be impactful.
Mayor Dave Anderson and commissioner Don Cooney both said construction put local businesses at risk.
The operators of The Bright Eyes microbrewery announced this week that they will be closing this Saturday, blaming the construction and its impact on their business.
