EMMETT TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A deer hunter helped Michigan State Police capture a fugitive in Calhoun County on Friday during the opening day of firearm deer hunting season.
State Police at Marshall say the hunter spotted the man near his four-wheeler and called police to report it. The 28-year-old suspect from Battle Creek had several outstanding warrants for his arrest and was already the subject of an active manhunt when the tip came in from Emmett Township.
State Police, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the Emmet Township Police Department, and tribal police were in the area looking for the suspect, who had fled the scene of a crash on Michigan Avenue, near 12 1/2 Mile Road.
Shortly after the hunter called police, law enforcement was able to quickly track down the fugitive, who was subsequently arrested without further incident.
His name has not been released, but he is facing several charges including assault with a vehicle.
