DETROIT — General Motors Co. today laid off roughly 1,000 people with a majority of those apparently working out of the automaker’s Global Technical Center in Warren, according to the Detroit News.
The layoffs are part of a reorganizing effort and affect both salary and hourly GM employees across multiple departments, the newspaper says in its report.
GM, which employs thousands of workers in the mid-Michigan area at Delta Township and Lansing Grand River Assembly plants, previously announced in August it had laid off more than 1,000 salaried employees working in its software and services organization.
