VICKSBURG, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Charges are reportedly being sought for a father whose three-year-old died in August after being left in a car at the Vicksburg Family Fare.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday they are seeking charges of Child Abuse- Leaving a Child in a Vehicle Resulting in Death.
The child died August 13, 2024. The man told officers he went to Family Fare on West Prairie Street to get groceries after work when he noticed that the toddler was still inside the car. The father told authorities that he had forgotten to drop off his son at daycare that morning before heading to work.
A preliminary investigation suggested the child died from prolonged heat exhaustion.
The child abuse charges can result in up to 15 years in prison.
