KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Kalamazoo man has been formally arraigned on Open Murder charges in the shooting death of another man Saturday.
In addition to murder, 43-year-old Jasper Jay Hopkins is also charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and three counts of Felony Firearm. Bond for Hopkins was denied.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to reports of gunfire in the 1300 block of Portage Street at approximately 10:25 p.m. Saturday, November 9. They found two men with gunshot wounds. 32-year-old Shondale Devon Kellumn died of his injuries, while another 33-year-old Kalamazoo man sustained a
non-life-threatening injury and has received medical treatment.
KDPS says their investigation remains ongoing.
