KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – After a six week delay because of technical issues, the new parking meter kiosks on the Kalamazoo Mall are finally up and running.
City officials say the kiosks were installed to increase the turnover of parking spaces on the Kalamazoo Mall so more on-street parking is available.
While the kiosks were being repaired because they wouldn’t properly communicate with the apps drivers were using, the city re-poured the cement bases to ensure the kiosks are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
City Communications Manager Michael Smith says meter enforcement will be delayed during a two-week grace period which ends Thursday, November 21. Beginning November 22, parking will cost $2 per hour between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Downtown visitors will continue to get 90 minutes of free parking in the Epic Center and the Kalamazoo Mall parking ramps.
