HOMER, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A 64-year-old Portage man was arrested in Homer on Tuesday morning after he allegedly threatened a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department deputy with a knife.
The Sheriff’s Department says they were called just before 7:30 a.m. on a report of someone burning leaves on the sidewalk along East Adams Street in Homer.
They say the suspect was initially cooperative but he unexpectedly brandished a knife and pointed it at the deputy.
Despite repeated orders to drop the knife, the subject complied only after being told multiple times.
As the deputy attempted to place him under arrest, the Sheriff’s Department said in a press release he then became combative.
Members of the Homer Fire Department, who had responded to the scene for the fire, assisted the deputy in taking the subject into custody.
The man was treated for minor injuries and was lodged on charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
An investigation revealed that the man had allegedly broken into the United Methodist Church in Homer.

This sounds suspicious he was cooperative so that tells me the police acted pushy and mean to make him feel like he had to protect himself. This is one of the problems with small town police officers. They think they have all the power and the citizens have none y’all need to check this out before you believe everything that the police says! I don’t believe them
