KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Crews working on Park Place Road next to South Westnedge Park have discovered what authorities believe are human remains.
City of Kalamazoo Public Services Director James Baker tells WWMT-TV they uncovered the remains last Friday morning. It’s the second discovery in the past year at the park, formerly known as Pioneer Cemetery.
In August, during regular lead service line maintenance, contractors discovered a buried 1838 gravestone.
Michigan Department of Transportation archaeologists, WMed, and the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office reportedly are analyzing the discovery at the park, which became a historical site in 1960.
