KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – After remaining a cold case since 2018, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety now says a suspect has been identified and arraigned for the murder of Marcus Kyle Ford.
27-year-old James Edward Reed Jr. of Grand Rapids, who is currently incarcerated at the Michigan Department of Corrections facility in Jackson for an unrelated 2018 assault with intent and felony firearm case in Kent County, was formerly charged with Open Murder Friday.
November 17, 2018 at approximately 1:32 a.m. KDPS officers responded to a shooting in the 600 block of Douglas Avenue. They found the 32-year-old Ford in a driveway with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
KDPS says despite initial investigative efforts, the case went cold due to a lack of substantial leads. They say detectives continued to work on the case and recently identified Reed as a suspect.
Reed was formally charged with Open Murder, Felony Firearm (two counts), Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. Bond was denied.
