KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County board got a chance to meet yesterday, one day after they were all reelected to new four-year terms.
The Democrat’s 6 to 3 majority remains intact, reflecting the overall voter count on Tuesday.
They call Kalamazoo a purple county, but it has been getting bluer over time, with nearly 6 in 10 voting Democrat in the presidential race.
County commissioners thanked everyone who worked to count the votes.
The Portage City Council also met last night and Mayor Patricia Randall thanked their clerk for not only getting the job done, but done quickly.
Local clerks oversaw the administration of over 150 separate races in cities, villages, townships, school and library districts and countywide Tuesday.
The job isn’t quite over as the Board of Canvassers in Michigan counties must begin meeting by this morning to begin the certification of the final vote.
Kalamazoo was one of eight out of Michigan’s 83 counties that went Democratic on Tuesday.
