PAW PAW, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – First Lieutenant Jeremy Carlisle has been promoted to become the new commander of the Michigan State Police Fifth District for southwest Michigan.
Carlisle was promoted on Thursday to captain and succeeds Captain Michael Brown, a 2022 Republican gubernatorial hopeful who has recently retired. The Detroit Free Press reported in July an internal affairs investigation found Brown failed to properly report a mistake made by troopers under his supervision, and the captain told the newspaper that he had erred in policy and took responsibility for the incident. Brown had been on administrative leave since the matter surfaced on July 16th.
Captain Carlisle oversees uniformed services for four MSP posts that cover Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren counties. Those include traffic patrols, criminal investigations, and emergency services.
Before being promoted, he was the first lieutenant and commander of the Niles Post and in his 20-year career he has also served in the Recruiting and Selection Section, as a detective on the a cold case team, and was a sergeant at the Paw Paw Post.
Captain Carlisle and his wife Aryn live in Cassopolis with their two daughters. He is pursuing a master’s degree in business administration from Cleary University.
