EAST LANSING, MI — Michigan State University is asking a judge to throw out former football coach Mel Tucker’s lawsuit that alleges he was wrongly fired by school officials nervous about another sex scandal.
The university let Tucker go during an investigation into a complaint of sexual harassment allegedly committed by Tucker against Brenda Tracy, a sexual assault survivor once hired by Tucker to address his football team about sexual assault violence.
Tracy has accused Tucker of making sexually inappropriate comments and masturbating without her consent during a late-night phone call, among other allegations.
Meanwhile, Tucker is trying to salvage what he can of the $80 million still left on his contract when he was fired in 2023. The motion by MSU filed in federal court this week says Tucker’s lawsuit is a meritless breach-of-contract claim.
