KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A measure that was temporarily adopted to help taverns during the COVID-19 pandemic could become a permanent fixture in Kalamazoo.
A state act allowed local municipalities to set up social districts, permitting the sale of beer by the cup, that could be transported throughout a pre-approved zone.
When first approved in Kalamazoo, it included a sunset date, ending the service on New Years Day 2025, in just a few months.
City Planner Antonio Mitchell says around 30 downtown establishments currently participate in the promotion.
Tonight, city commissioners will be asked to eliminate the sunset clause on the social districts.
